Dunrobin Castle and Gardens
With 189 rooms, Dunrobin Castle and Gardens is the biggest estate in the north of Scotland. Long the official home of the dukes of Sutherland, this imposing castle is often described as "the jewel in the crown of the Highlands." Though the site has its origins in the Middle Ages, most of the present buildings and gardens were added in the 19th century, with elements modeled on the work of French architect Viollet-le-Duc. The French influence extends into the gardens, which were inspired by the famous gardens at Versailles. The castle houses a museum of animal trophy heads, shot by the Sutherland family on various safaris, along with an important collection of archaeological artifacts. Stop by for the falconry display, held daily in the manicured gardens. PutDunrobin Castle and Gardens into our Golspie trip tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

Beautiful castle and extremely interesting. Freezing cold inside so go on a warmer day! Gorgeous gardens which will be stunning in summer. Staff very nice and welcoming. Highly recommended.
