Nicknamed for the blue tiles that adorn its interior, Sultan Ahmed Mosque represents an imposing figure in the city's history and skyline. Located in the historic Sultanahmet district and built in the early 17th century, this impressive religious structure has a total of six minarets, one main dome, and eight secondary domes. Originally commissioned to reassert Ottoman power in Istanbul and across the region, this mosque still functions as a site of worship today. However, the site welcomes visitors of all faiths to view its spectacular design, which mixes traditional Islamic architecture with Byzantine elements. Keep in mind you'll need to remove your shoes and women should cover their head and shoulders. We went there on Friday around 2:00 pm. A major portion of site is under renovation. The queue to enter was huge. The experience of praying there was a unique yet soothing. The architecture is mesmerizing. The aura it releases lures you towards it. A beautiful mosque. Remember one needs to cover her head and body while entering. The clothing is temporarily provided for free just outside the entrance.

Real Review: basically closed. Not worth it to visit now as you can't hardly see anything due to construction. I am wondering what's going on with all the "local guides" reviews here in Istanbul. They are over-the-top positive. Is the tourist board or some private interest paying them to flood google maps with positive reviews? I went there myself and you can't see anything inside. Almost completely under construction. Not even worth half the wait in line. Go back when it's done, I'm sure it's lovely.
