Goreme
Famed for its landscape of unusually shaped stone formations and churches cut into the natural rocks, Goreme sits in the central part of the country, an area originally settled during Roman times. A small village of just over 2,000 residents, Goreme remained little more than a farming hamlet for most of its history. Today the village draws a growing number of tourists with its easygoing atmosphere and proximity to a World Heritage-listed national park. Goreme is so small you can easily walk from one end of the village to the other in just a few minutes, but if you intend to explore the surrounding area, consider renting a bicycle or scooter.
