Kaunas — 2 nights

Situated between the Neris and Nemunas rivers, Kaunas is known for its old town, which, though smaller than the capital's, is in much better condition.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Wed): browse the different shops at Akropolis, look for gifts at Jaukus Namai, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Pazaislis Monastery, then steep yourself in history at Sugihara House, then get engrossed in the history at Kaunas City Museum Folk Music Branch, and finally contemplate the long history of Kaunas Town Hall. On your second day here, step into the grandiose world of Kaunas Castle, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul, then steep yourself in history at Ninth Fort, and finally take a stroll through Laisves aleja (Liberty Boulevard).

The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
Get some cultural insight at Gediminas Castle Tower and KGB Museum (Genocido Auku Muziejus). Get some historical perspective at Gate of Dawn and Vilnius Cathedral. Step out of Vilnius to go to Trakai and see Trakai Island Castle Museum, which is approximately 36 minutes away. There's much more to do: take in the exciting artwork at Vilnil. Museum of illusions, stop by Kolekcija, explore the world behind art at Tsekh Vilnius, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Vilniaus staciatikiu Sventosios Dvasios vienuolynas.
