Jerusalem of Lithuania

The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Vilnius: Vytautas the Great Monument (in Kernave) and Trakai (Trakai Island Castle Museum & Church of Nativity of Most Holy Mother of God). There's still lots to do: take in the local highlights with Walking tours, take in the spiritual surroundings of Gate of Dawn, take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Anne's Church, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Hill of Three Crosses.

Anykščiai is a ski resort town in Lithuania, 20mi west of Utena. Change things up with these side-trips from Anyksciai: Utena (Utenio Square, VestuviU Kalnas, &more), Museum of Ancient Beekeeping (in Ignalina) and Rokiskis Regional Museum (in Rokiskis). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Narrow-Gauge Railway Museum, pause for some serene contemplation at Church of Apostle Evangelist St. Matthew, explore the striking landscape at Ladakalnis, and take in panoramic vistas at Rubikiai Observation Tower.
