Famous for its resemblance to the ancient settlements of Jerusalem and Cappadocia, Matera remains one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Sassi di Matera and Centro Storico Locorotondo. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Church of Santa Maria de Idris and Trullo Sovrano. Step out of Matera to go to Taranto and see Jonian Dolphin Conservation, which is approximately 1h 20 min away. The adventure continues: make a trip to Casa Noha, see the interesting displays at MUSMA Museum of Contemporary Sculpture, walk around Parco della Murgia Materana, and delve into the distant past at Cripta del Peccato Originale.
