Izmir — 2 nights

Pearl of the Aegean

The birthplace of Homer, the ancient port city of Izmir boasts a colorful heritage that includes traces of Greek, Armenian, and Jewish cultures.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Ancient City of Ephesus and Meryemana (The Virgin Mary's House). Visit Bibliotheque de Celsus and Efes Antik Kenti Tiyatrosu for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Izmir side-trips: Selcuk (Ephesus Terrace Houses & The Basilica of Saint John) and Sirince Koyu (in Sirince). There's still lots to do: wander the streets of Kemeralti Market, kick back and relax at Pirlanta Beach, and make a trip to Tarihi Asansor.

If you are flying in from Germany, the closest major aiports are Adnan Menderes International Airport, Milas Bodrum International Airport and Dalaman International Airport. In August, daytime highs in Izmir are 28°C, while nighttime lows are 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Wed) to allow enough time to travel back home.
