Kampala enjoys the reputation of a modern city with a buzzing atmosphere--it also serves as a good base point for exploring the surrounding area.

Step off the beaten path and head to Victoria Nile and Kampala Fair. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kampala: Entebbe (Entebbe Golf Club, Lake Victoria, &more), Our Lady of Peace Cathedral (in Lugazi) and Jinja (Source of the Nile Museum, Cuupa Arts Gallery, &more). On the 2nd (Sun), spend a day ambling around Gorilla Bookings. There's lots more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at African Pearl Safaris, appreciate the history behind Independence Monument, race across the water with a speed boat tour, and head outdoors with Outdoor Activities.
