Colombia's Adventure Sport Capital

Providing some of the region's best opportunities for paragliding, rappelling, white-water rafting, kayaking, hiking, and caving, San Gil appeals to adventure seekers and nature lovers wishing to escape overcrowded Bogota, located several hours' drive to the south.
Get some historical perspective at Camino Real and Cementerio Barichara. Visiting Parque Nacional de Chicamocha and Parque Gallineral will get you outdoors. When in San Gil, make a side trip to see Yogasana in Barichara, approximately Barichara away. And it doesn't end there: add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour, get outside with Parapente Paravolar Colombia, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Parroquia Catedral de Santa Cruz, and push the limits with an extreme tour.

Fly from Bogota to San Gil in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and taxi. Traveling from Bogota in August, things will get a bit warmer in San Gil: highs are around 31°C and lows about 21°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Sat) to allow time to fly to Isla Baru.

Isla Baru — 2 nights

Lying south of Cartagena, Isla Baru was connected to the mainland until the construction of the Canal del Dique.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Sun): kick back and relax at Playa Puntilla, stroll through Aviario Nacional de Colombia, and then identify plant and animal life at Afronautica. Keep things going the next day: kick back and relax at Playa Blanca.

You can fly from San Gil to Isla Baru in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a bus. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 15th (Mon) to allow enough time to fly to Providencia Island.

Providencia Island — 2 nights

Although part of Colombia, the small, isolated Providencia Island retains its Caribbean culture and English-Creole language.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Tue): step off the mainland to explore Santa Catalina, then step off the mainland to explore Crab Cay-Cayo Cangrejo, then take in the dramatic natural features at Morgan's Head, and finally make a trip to The Peak Forestry Reserve. On the 17th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour and then enjoy the sand and surf at Almond Bay.
