Tirana — 2 nights

Tirana, the largest city in Albania, represents one a lively and fast-paced metropolis.
Get a sense of the local culture at Bunk'Art 1 and House of Leaves. Museum-lovers will get to explore Ethnographic Museum of Kruja and Durres Archaeological Museum. Explore Tirana's surroundings by going to Kruja Castle (in Kruje), Durres Amphitheatre (in Durres) and Statue of George W. Bush (in Fushe Kruje). And it doesn't end there: see the interesting displays at Bektashi World Center, learn about all things military at BunkArt 2, get interesting insight from Tours, and make a trip to Skanderbeg Square.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Tirana is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Plan for a bit warmer temperatures traveling from Amsterdam in September, with highs in Tirana at 33°C and lows at 17°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Thu) early enough to go by car to Shkoder.

A rare example of well-preserved Ottoman style, Berat is a World Heritage Site.

Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Fri) so you can drive to Saranda.

Saranda — 4 nights

A popular summer destination for its inexpensive accommodation and stony Mediterranean beaches, Saranda has become a favorite of both Albanian and foreign travelers.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Zekate House. Visiting Butrint National Park and Mirror (Pasqyra) Beach will get you outdoors. Step out of Saranda to go to Gjirokaster and see Gjirokaster, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. There's lots more to do: surround yourself with nature on Saranda Jeep, contemplate the waterfront views at Vivar Kanal, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Monastery of Saint Michael, and kick back and relax at Pulebardha Beach.
