The largest city on the western coast of Sumatra, Padang enjoys a reputation as one of Indonesia's cleanest and greenest cities despite its hub of residential and commercial activity.

Take a break from the city and head to Pasumpahan Island and Pamutusan Island. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Pantai Carolina Bungus (Carolina Beach) and Lubuk Minturun. Traveling from Singapore in July, plan for slightly colder nights in Padang, with lows around 26°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Bukittinggi.

With a population of over 117,000 spread out over an area of 25 sq km (9.7 sq mi), Bukittinggi represents one of the largest cities in Western Sumatra.

You'll discover tucked-away gems like Batang Palupuh Nature Conservation Center (Rafflesia Park) and Goedang Ransum. Step out of the city life by going to Sianok canyon and Harau Canyon. Step out of Bukittinggi to go to Solok and see Lake Singkarak, which is approximately 1h 30 min away.
