Housed in the painter's town of Haarlem, Frans Hals Museum represents the largest repository of the famed Dutch artist's works in the world. Spending most of his life in Holland, Hals specialized in leaving his paintings with a "rough" finish. Visit the museum and peruse its collection of more than 750 paintings and works spread out over numerous galleries and exhibitions. Inspect Hals' "loose brushwork" up-close to fully appreciate the sense of life and movement it brought to his art, perhaps his most notable trademark. You can listen to an audio tour, included in your admission, or download the museum's smartphone app for more in-depth information along the way. Don't miss seeing the facility's collection of religious artwork and Haarlem-related artifacts also on display. Frans Hals Museum reviews
Very interesting and relaxed visit, so very less crowded than other museums, especially the room exhibiting all the city guards paintings by Frans Hals where you can see the evolution of his style.

Frans Hals paintings which I didn’t know. The cafe is well worth a visit - good coffee. A good souvenir shop.

Paintings were described in Dutch and English, nicely arranged by themes. Easy square walk about with quiet central courtyard. It allowed me to appreciate the art that much more. Ok for young kids, but better for adults.
Nicely curated small museum, friendly personnel and good (free) audio guides. The short film at the beginning was helpful to grasp the essence of Hals and his works. Highly recommended a visit if you’re in Haarlem.
