Create an itinerary including Gamle Stavanger
Get a taste of Norway's past at Gamle Stavanger, the city's historical district and home to one of the largest collections of preserved wooden homes in the region. Dating mainly from the 18th and early 19th centuries, these Stavanger homes characterize the architectural style that once existed nationwide. The cobbled streets wind between whitewashed historical homes, numbering 173 in all. Discover the multitude of craft stores and shops that now give life to the area. Be sure to stop by the local canning museum, which demonstrates the inner workings of a typical factory in the neighborhood at the dawn of the 20th century. • We rented a small house in Gamle Stavanger for a vacation stay in September 2022. Walking through the area was delightful, and the history behind the various houses fascinating. Worth a walk through!

  • First impressions are great. The plaza is very inviting and there is a feeling of being in a nice place with great ambience. The narrow lanes behind the plaza are quaint and well manicured with nice floral arrangements along the shops. Very good for photos hots . Coffee shops along the waterfront are a great place to chill out and watch the tourists and the world go by.
  • Gamle Stavanger is one the most interesting spots in the city. it is a lovely neighborhood composed by beautiful, neat white houses in typical Norwegian style. You can see wonderful, well treated gardens and lots of proud flags from Norway. Recommend
