Stand under the shade of Tule Tree, a Montezuma cypress situated in church grounds. With a diameter of 9.38 m (30.8 ft), the cypress is considered by many to be the stoutest tree in the world. Local Zapotec legend has it that the tree was planted around 1,400 years ago by a priest of Ehecatl, the Aztec wind god. Most scientific estimates support the Zapotec's belief, and its position on a sacred site, now a Roman Catholic Church, suggests there could be some truth in the legend surrounding its origin. Beautiful tree in a serene setting. A small fee to get close, but cannot touch the trunk. We saw as part of a tour. Would not have wanted to miss when in the area.

Pretty cool place to visit! The story behind the tree is interesting, entry is only MXN 20 and it's a cute little town to wander around. Don't be intimidated by the dogs - they are super gentle and just want some food.

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful spot to visit in Oaxaca, Mexico to experience the magical energy of this magnificent tree.
