Beautiful house and the small library upstairs is a place where time has stopped. Lots of old books and also some maps. Friendly staff and you get the feeling that you are standing in Livingstones footsteps. If you like old books you have to visit!
The Society was established in 1946 (then known as the The Nyasaland Society). It is one of the oldest such Societies remaining in the Southern Africa. The library is located on the second floor of the Mandala House. The entrance is through the La Caverna Art Gallery on some excellently maintained but steep wooden stairs. Walking inside you will be transposed in time, to when this building (the oldest such brick building in Blantyre) was used by the African Lakes Corporation. The board room and the reference library room offer beautiful environment for reading, thinking and writing. The reference library has about 3000 books; electronic photographic archive has about 10,000 historic images. It is a place worth visiting.
