Create an itinerary including Mida Creek
Take a canoe ride through the mangrove banks of Mida Creek, a large saline lagoon and tidal creek merging with a huge mangrove forest. This UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve provides a safe haven for national waterfowl and a number of migratory species, including large flamingos and crab-plovers, greenshanks and sacred ibises. Spanning 1,600 hectares (3,954 acres), these wetlands feature 11 types of seagrass and 33 seaweed species, as well six varieties of mangrove. Follow the long boardwalk deep into the forest and take a dip in one of the lagoons surrounded by dense vegetation. • We did the full day Mida Creek adventure. The snorkeling and seeing the dolphins was great, the boatmen were great and friendly. Take a towel to sit on, as the hard wooden seats are uncomfortable...

  • Stretching inland from the sea into Arabuko Sokoke Forest is one of Watamu’s true hidden treasures: Mida Creek, a broadwater tidal creek surrounded by extensive mangroves and lined with palms. This 32km2 creek has wide, healthy beds of seagrass and coral, home to many species of fish and feeding sea turtles, while in the mangroves smaller streams and inlets provide a refuge for crabs and birdlife. Mida is a stopover point for many migratory birds and an essential protected area for their survival. This makes it one of the most important and beautiful natural attractions on the Kenyan coast.
  • Soooo good! The canoe ride and the board walk are worth it.
