Create an itinerary including Nara Park
Take a stroll among verdant trees and peaceful shrines of Nara Park, established in 1880. The park shelters relatively tame herds of sika deer, free to roam the lawns and gardens at will. Wander through groves of willows and cherry trees to spot picturesque ponds and admire numerous temples sprinkled throughout the park. The deer, although friendly, occasionally exhibit aggressive behavior in the presence of food--if you wish to feed them, purchase some rice crackers and keep your snacks away from their sight. PutNara Park into our Nara trip builder tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Loved the deer roaming around freely. Feeding them was hard on my husband. He thought they will bite him. The park was huge.

  • This was a day trip from Osaka with JR Rail pass. We purchased the day bus pass for Y500 which allowed us to travel hop on/hop off too. We took the bus first to Ksauga Taisha Shrine but walked...

  • Perfect location for a day out, large walking paths with beautiful temples to visit, and the polite deer that bow for a snack are an experience worth the visit. Beware of them sneaking up on you though! As the signs on site indicate the deer are still wild animals and should be treated with the appropriate respect when interacted with.
  • The park was pleasant and while the deer can get over excited over the free food. it was fun just to watch other people feed the deer. Bonus I got to hand feed a freaking baby deer!
