Create an itinerary including Scuola Grande di San Rocco
Admire the majestic facade of Scuola Grande di San Rocco but be sure to go inside and look up. The large 16th-century wall and ceiling paintings by Tintoretto have led to comparisons with the Sistine Chapel. Originally built between 1489 and 1508, the church was overhauled in 1725. The rarely crowded church is next to the better-known Scuola Di San Rocco, also known for its Tintoretto works. Note the church has a dress code, with no shorts allowed. • The gallery for this old structure is wonderful. The audio guide offered so much information, and I appreciated the stories for how the art was commissioned/ inspired, to the meaning of each work.

  • €8 entry for people aged 26 and younger, €10 entry for those who are older. Absolutely gorgeous interior with beautiful frescos. During our visit, it was not crowded at all and it was easy to get photographs without others getting in the way. Plenty of seating available as well so that you can take your time and enjoy the artwork.
  • Very impressive. Some of the paintings are worthy of second looks. We spent a lot of time trying to figure out what they depicted and were quite astonished. Don’t forget the very top room which has some interesting and saintly relics that maybe of interest. Look closely.
