Admire the historical grandeur of Venice combined with an impressive collection of artwork at Ca' d'Oro. The magnificent Gothic palace was built in the 15th century as home to the influential Contarini family. It remained in private hands until the early 20th century, when its last owner, an avid art collector named Giorgio Franchetti, transferred it to the Italian state. A great architectural monument, the palace still houses Franchetti's collection, which includes the works of artists such as Titian, Jan van Eyck, and Anthony van Dyck. You'll find guided tours of the palace in different languages both for groups and individual visitors, but you'll want to book them in advance. The palace is beautiful Venetian Gothic, offering a couple of terraces looking out on the Grand Canal, as well as an impressive collection of sculptures and some paintings.

How incredibly frustrating that neither Google maps or other information sources were up to date! Since 22 April opening hours have totally changed. Having walked half way across Venice to arrive at 9am when it should have already opened we find a closed wooden door with no indication that it is even the entrance! Finally found a message from the Gallery on Google re. change of opening times......closed Mondays. How great is that! Walked all the way back to our hotel tired, hot, sweaty and furious! Time to change into fresh clothes. Thank you Venice (and Google maps) for a wasted morning! I have now edited the opening times!

I love this cool and tranquil gallery. The art, the views of the Grand Canal, the exquisite marble pavements of the portone - all unmissable.
