Create an itinerary including Cattedrale di Trani
Just next to the sea, Romanesque Cattedrale di Trani was constructed from local Tufa limestone, which gives the structure its light pink, almost white color. Evidence of the first house of worship on this spot goes back to the fourth century, though the church as we see it now was begun in 1099. Simple in style, it remains imposingly beautiful inside and out. Climb the bell tower, added between 1230 and 1239, for views of the sea and city below, or descend into the crypt, which remains just as it was built almost 1,000 years ago. • I had very high expectations for this church and was disappointed to find it closed for renovations on January 2023. Anyway, the crypt was worth the visit.

  • Beautiful Basilica on a large square by the sea with great view to nearby castle. We parked easily at the nearby port where fresh fish were being sold straight off the back of the boats. Under restoration when we were there, the exterior nearly complete and stunning to look at with onlt a small rear section still behind scaffolding. Only the crypt of interior open, but fun to visit. In the crypt are the relics of St. Nicholas the wanderer, not themore famous St Nick. Basilica from 1100, built over a church from 400AD.
  • It was a visit from abroad, I did not enter the church, it is a beautiful area, a file of interest in the architecture of the area and the church that the baa was made of local materials and local stone, so it is very special and a reference to the ancient Italian organic architecture
