Built to commemorate the founder of the Jesuit order, the 17th-century Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola features an interior with gilded ornaments, marble reliefs, and remarkable frescoes. Admire the church's Baroque facade before heading inside to study the fresco glorifying St. Ignatius. Covering the ceiling of the nave, it creates an optical illusion of a dome. You can wander the plaza where the church is located to see examples of Rococo architecture. • Definitely recommend a wander in. Absolutely huge and some amazing artwork, especially on the ceiling. Free in but can make donations, it’s between the Trevor Fountain and The Pantheon.

  • If you know you know. I was more excited to visit than I was about seeing the Sistine Chapel. It didn’t disappoint. One of my favorite Baroque paintings of all time and it’s a wonderful place to sit and relax after sightseeing all day. Free and calming inside too!!! Bring binoculars or a sketchbook and enjoy this total work of art!
  • Interesting paintings on the ceiling. They give you 3-D feel off the scene. Also, the dome is very interesting. Pay the Eur 1 to light up the dome and see the visual trickery (or the painter's genius). It is worth the visit. You can also view the ceiling through a mirror placed on the floor. Usually there is a long line to view it this way.
