Create an itinerary including Cattedrale Di Otranto
Cattedrale Di Otranto is most famous for the 12th-century mosaic that covers the floor of the nave, sanctuary and apse. Within the tiles, you'll recognize scenes from the Old Testament and the tree of life. The cathedral, consecrated almost 1,000 years ago, was built on the remains of a Messapian village, a Roman house, and an early Christian church. Admire the mixture of architectural styles, including Byzantine, early Christian, and Romanesque elements. In the south aisle, look for the Chapel of the Martyrs, which displays relics of those who died in the Ottoman siege of the church in 1480. Cattedrale Di Otranto is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , custom trip planner Edition.

  • Amazing mosaics which are surprisingly well-preserved even though these are still accessible to the public. The ceilings are also a sight to see. Rich in history and detail - made me wish there were more descriptions about the different features of the Cathedràl. Definitely worth the trip to Otranto 👍
  • A real surprise, the Arbor vitae mosaic is great, weird little animals - I found the ceiling design even better - but the biggest mad thing about the place is the remains of the 800 Martyrs, well worth a (creepy) videos t
