Create an itinerary including Scaliger Castle in Malcesine
Time seems to stand still at Scaliger Castle in Malcesine, a medieval structure with winding battlements and a tower overlooking Lake Garda. It is believed that a fortification of some sort has existed on this site since as early as the fifth century, but most of the structures visible today were added in the 13th century by the della Scala family, rulers of Verona. During that time the structure was fortified and became an important part of the region’s defensive system. Since 1902 the castle has been a national monument, and today it contains a small museum on the natural history of Lake Garda. Climb the tower for sweeping views of the lake and the town, but be careful of the clock bell, which chimes earsplittingly on the hour. Guided tours can be pre-booked by telephone. • The castle is kept in very good condition with beautiful gardens. The views are very nice and there are even a few small museums inside. Definitely worth a visit!
  • Awesome view, impressive Castello. A lot to see & learn at the exhibition.
