Set in a gorge on Monte Subasio, Eremo delle Carceri served as a place of worship and solitude for St. Francis of Assisi during the 13th century. Explore the paths and archways of the retreat, which have been expanded over the centuries since St. Francis' death. Admire the complex's stonework, set on a hillside at an elevation of 791 m (2,595 ft). Wind your way through inner courtyards and small chapels to the cave of St. Francis. A small group of Franciscan monks use the monastery now. The hike up to the monastery—even from the parking lot—is somewhat steep. The pathway to arrive here is horrible. Only accessible with cars. If you want to walk, you have to walk on the street together with cars. There’s no pathway to arrive. And such a shame that they don’t allow dogs to enter. San Francesco would be really disappointed by these people who is against everything he agreed. And it’s such a shame that these people are managing the holly land of san Francesco. Shame shame shame!

One of the best Holy Place to pray, meditate and think in the whole world. Just get into those Holy Woods, sit, think and pray. You'll completely understand what I mean. The same air, trees, paths are filled with the Holiness of the Saints that lived there in the XIII century. You can't miss this place.
