Create an itinerary including Tanah Lot Temple
Built onto a giant offshore rock, Tanah Lot Temple remains one of the more venerated Hindu structures with strong ties to Balinese mythology. One of seven significant sea temples spread across Bali's coastline, this shrine is allegedly the work of Dan Hyang Nirartha, a 16th-century religious figure and traveler who founded the island's Shaivite priesthood. Though you can walk to the rock during low tide, keep in mind that non-Balinese visitors cannot enter the temple itself. The site--one of the most photographed in Bali--draws huge crowds at sunset, when soft light bathes the area and creates a nearly magical atmosphere. • The place that offered the true realization of strong ocean waves thrashing into the rocks and make you realize how much impact they have created over the years, the nice wind making you feel the ocean freshness and relax your mind, the sunset view that calms and disconnects you from rest of the world, the clockwork, discipline and togetherness of millions of bats which will come out of the caves underneath were you stand the moment sun sets. Just an amazing place for spending the evening and doing nothing just soak in the ecosystem around you...
  • Beautiful and Amazing. Definitely worth seeing. The locals selling things and requesting donations etc gets a little much though but definitely a must see. Make sure you walk across to both temples though. You can't actually enter either but you might only think there is one but there's actually 2. Plenty of places to take photos and watch the sunset.
