Explore one of the most important centers of the Mayan civilization at Tikal. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1979, the ancient Mayan city was inhabited from 6th century BC to the 10th century. On a tour of the park, you can view thousands of ancient ruins sprawled across the verdant jungle. Hike the tropical forest trails in between the grand ruins. In addition to culture, pay attention to the natural gems here too--you'll pass through a canopy of lush green trees inhabited by howler monkeys, toucans, coatimundis, and other jungle creatures. For Tikal and beyond, use our Tikal National Park trip planner to get the most from your Tikal National Park vacation.

  • One of the greatest experience of my life I enjoyed it very much. Be prepared there is no cell phone signal as well drink a lot of water in the summer time the view is amazing. The guides are very knowledgeable of the site and is well taken care of .
  • Great place to visit. Had a great time and would love to revisit again in the future. The walk is not too bad. Plenty of room to walk and family friendly.
