  • My teenager and I did the morning trip to Pacaya and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide, Binny, (or maybe Vinny?) was excellent. He was bilingual and asked us how much Spanish or English we wanted to speak. He was very fun, friendly and informative. He also prepared us a wonderful lunch on the volcano and we, of course, enjoyed roasting marshmallows as well. Highly recommend for a day trip!
  • We did an all day rock climbing trip to Lake Amatitlan. It ended up being a private tour with 3 of us climbing, our guide, and a driver. It seemed odd that they paid for an additional driver when maybe a guide could have driven, especially since he was providing directions to the driver anyways. Neither the driver nor the guide were particularly friendly. In fact, the guide never asked our names. Additionally, he was very pushy on encouraging us to lead climb. If we wanted to lead climb, I would take a lead climbing class in my town at home and practice in an environment I know. Instead, we wanted someone to set up ropes for us in an area we were unfamiliar with. We wasted over an hour while he tried to teach 2 of us to lead climb even though we weren't interested and ended up finally convincing him that we weren't comfortable to do it. The rock climbing area we went to was quite large and had a large variety of difficulties. The guide did seem to be quite familiar with the area. If this is the only rock climbing company in town, they were good enough to go with but if you have other options, I would explore those as well.
