Embark on a short but steep walk to Cerro de la Cruz, a landmark of Antigua. The ascent takes you to a scenic lookout point, complete with a large cross statue made of stone, dedicated to the city’s patron saint. From the viewpoint perched on the hilltop, you can enjoy the postcard-like vista of the city, with the imposing Volcan Agua in the background. Robberies in the once notorious area have declined thanks to improved security, but it's best not to attempt the ascent alone or at night. • I climbed the stairs and hiked to the top of the mountain. The top can be crowded, but there is absolutely no dearth of excellent views and photo-ops. The sprawling Antigua city can be clearly seen...

  • Easy and short hike from the main town. We used the marked trail (off of 1a Avenida Nte) to go both up and down, even though there is another path down with signs saying “SALIDA.” This other path...

  • AMAZING view of the city. About 10 minutes of stairs to get up there, so bring your inhaler! Have been advised by locals not to climb after 4:30 PM due to safety concerns, so just be cautious and go in a group if possible. Besides, you’ll want friends around to take pictures of you! If you like dogs, there are usually strays on the way up - careful with your food and don’t pet them (disease risk).
  • Great views of the city. Benches for picnic. Well maintained path to get there. Free. Decently clean
