Musee des Beaux-Arts de Rouen, Rouen

Particularly interesting because its fine art collections represent every European school from the 15th to the 21st centuries, Musee des Beaux-Arts de Rouen was founded in 1801 by Napoléon I. The vast collection represents many periods and styles with objets d'art, paintings, and drawings. The lost statue, "Hercules Slaying the Hydra of Lerna" by Pierre Puget, is on view, as well as other notable sculptures like "Satyr and Nymph” by Théodore Géricault. An impressive donation of François Depeaux paintings placed the museum at the forefront for Impressionist and 19th-century paintings.
