Museo Nacional De Costa Rica
Discover centuries of Costa Rican history at Museo Nacional De Costa Rica. Established in 1887, the museum sits within the Bellavista Fortress, the former army headquarters which saw Civil War battles, and where president Jose Figueres Ferrer abolished the military in 1949. Admire the historic structure and explore the museum inside, which boasts exhibits of the country's history ranging from pre-Columbian artifacts to displays about the colonial era and the independent nation. In addition to the historical and cultural exhibits, you can visit a butterfly garden inside the museum. Put Museo Nacional De Costa Rica into our San Jose online day trip planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in San Jose.

This museum is one of the most historical places around the city. If you are travelling around here, is a "must" visit. You are going to be able to access to historical data, getting insights about our culture, the army and their eradication process, a terrific butterfly sanctuary and more. It also has a nice point of view to the city, but there is not always access to the public ( ask first 👍🏼) I didn't like the point that there is not a restaurant or cafeteria inside of the museum, it definitely will increase the attractiveness. At least, if you visit here, you are going to get an amazing experience. I recommend it.

Detailed historical exhibits in Spanish and English. I would give 5 stars if there was more information about the building itself, particularly the jail cells. Definitely worth a visit.
