La Fortuna Waterfall
A short drive from town, La Fortuna Waterfall offers an idyllic place for swimming, picnicking, and relaxing. Fed by the Arenal River, which winds its way through the rainforest before plunging dramatically over a steep cliff, this waterfall forms a large pool at the base of a dormant volcano. Lifeguards remain on duty throughout the day, while modern facilities like restrooms and showers ensure a comfortable visit in a lush area noted for thick vegetation and abundant wildlife. Prepare for a short but arduous hike to the base of the waterfall by wearing shoes suitable for slippery and uneven terrain. We enjoyed this waterfall so much!, Best advice to future travelers is to go early before the crowds, and bring your water shoes. I managed the five hundred steps easily, taking manynbreaks along...

Incredible. It is a lot of steps -- likely 500 + We are seniors - so we rested at the benches provided. The foliage is fantastic. The waterfalls and collecting pond is wonderful. There are lots of big rocks and lots of people - and yet it is worthy of standing there and enjoying a natural phenomenon. Beautiful place. You earn the view with the walking and all the steps - so enjoy it. Chatted with people from so many parts of the world on the viewing platform. AND when it was all over we sat in a jungle-side cafe - had a light lunch and a tall cool drink. A lovely outing for you when you are in this area. Dress properly and bring water and pace your climbing.

One of the most amazing waterfall experiences! The steps to hike down are are rugged and make for a nice adventure. You swim close to the falls as the water is not deep but use caution as the powerful falls may bring down rocks. Downstream is a tranquil stream that you can relax in a take in a more grander view of the scenery.
