Port-Royal National Historic Site
Step into a re-creation of France's first successful New World colony when you visit Port-Royal National Historic Site. A walk through the village gives you the experience what one of the earliest settlements in Canada was like. Staff dress in period costumes and many perform jobs and tasks from the time period. Children can take part in an explorer program by completing various period educational tasks around the village. Once kids complete the tasks, they are rewarded with a souvenir. Use our Annapolis Royal online attractions planner to arrange your visit to Port-Royal National Historic Site and other attractions in Annapolis Royal.

Wonderful place to visit! Highly recommended. It’s a fantastic reconstruction of the original site dating back to 1605, rarely ever accomplished in history, anywhere, as they typically never go back that far! In this often uncertain time of cancel-culture, it’s refreshing to see a historic heritage site to remind us where we came from, and how blessed and fortunate we truly are. We must embrace our history, both good and bad, and learn from our successes and our mistakes, so that we leave behind a better world for our future generations.

A recreated site of the original settlement in an estimated location. Worth a stop. Entrance fee is reasonable ($4 odd). The guide map does a good job of explaining the buildings so be sure to grab one. The grounds are very scenic as well.
