Sono Beach, Paraty

Flanked by a lush wall of rainforest and with golden sands that stretch as far as your eye can see, Sono Beach is a deserted paradise well removed from the bustle of Rio. The beach remains unspoiled with very little infrastructure, despite a small fishing community who have made it their home, but you will find a few kiosks whose owners will tell you stories of the island from times gone by. From the small church in the middle of the beach, you can take a 20-minute trail leading to natural pools and waterfalls, perfect for some scenic swimming.
