At The Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), imagine how the Austrian emperor and his wife sat on the porch and watched tournaments on the square below. The symbol of the city, it overlooks the main street of Altstadt. The name of the place stems from the 2,738 fire-gilded copper tiles covering the roof. Emperor Maximilian I commissioned the three-story balcony to celebrate his marriage to Bianca Maria Sforza. Learn about Austrian history from the reliefs and murals depicting scenes of the emperor's life. Eight sculpted reliefs covering the second-floor balustrade illustrate how aristocrats amused themselves. Look for a flanking relief depicting the acrobatic and grotesque dancing of Moorish origin. • The Golden Roof was lovely to see, even though we hadn't heard of it before visiting Innsbruck. The whole town had a lovely atmosphere - looking forward to returning!

  • Very pretty landmark building situated in an amazing town square. Did not go inside but would like to someday. Highly recommend chill afternoon in and around this little Innsbruck area. Lots to do nearby. Food, shopping, grocery, souvenirs (quite expensive than other places though). Very good vibes.
  • Great Historical Place. You will feel you have entered in the year 1890. Great architectural work. You can take hundreds of photos. Good place to do shopping. You can buy Fashionable cloths fashion accessories and many more. Spend atleast two hours to feel the place.
