As the country's largest railway museum, National Railway Museum Port Adelaide contains over 100 exhibits from both public and private railway operators in Australia. Tour historic buildings such as the Goods Shed, which stands as a fine example of 19th-century timber-beamed buildings that the South Australian Railway used, and the signal cabin that the Woodville station onces used. Walk through displays detailing the history of women in Australian railways and iconic rail journeys in Australia and relax in a 1947 cafeteria car meant to resemble a carriage from an Agatha Christie novel. If you visit on a Sunday or public holiday from October to April, take a ride on the Semaphore to Fort Glanville Tourist Railway. • Such an interesting and fun visit for the whole family. My son loved the mini engine ride around the museum and pretending to dine in the dinner carriage. Very quiet. Many of the trains were closed, and we would like to come back another time. A tour would be wonderful.
  • This is an awesome explore and the little railway is so much fun no matter what size kid you are. The exhibits are mostly accessible but some areas are not. That museum is volunteer run and they do an awesome job at keeping the maintenance up. I totally enjoyed my visit. It would be handy to have a little more interpretation but what's there on about half of the exhibits is good.
