Once a limestone cave, Umpherston Sinkhole was created when the cave ceiling collapsed. The sunken earth proved a perfect place for growing lush greenery. Thick vines cascade over the sinkhole's edge while the center is landscaped with grasses and palms. Take a walk through the garden for an otherworldly look beneath the green curtains and between the limestone rocks. • This place is amazing, you can walk down into it and around the base, you can also walk behind the greenery but is quite dark and uneven. The steps are also fairly steep.

  • Great experience! Beautiful garden and natural features in the caves below. We unfortunately went when very crowded, but there were enough spots to sneak away and view in peace. Beehives in the cave and the scent of fresh honey was a nice surprise. Worthy of a stop while you're visiting Mt. Gambier!
  • Loved the visit. Went just after dark & its well lit, looks beautiful by the lights of the night. The possums were adorable and we were able to feed & pat one of them. Will return in the day to see it also. Anyone who has issues with steps may have a hard time, but still beautiful to view from above also.
