Established in 1881, Art Gallery of South Australia houses Australia's second largest art collection, nearly 35,000 articles including works by some of the world's most prominent artists. Notable items include pieces created by indigenous artists, as well as works by Pre-Raphaelite masters, such as William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Also represented are important works of the Heidelberg school, European landscape artists, and British portrait painters. Small but fascinating gallery with an eclectic collection. We explored most of the rooms and the mix of fine art and sculptures. It was easy to get to on the tram.

A great place with great masterpieces. It’s free to access. They have guided tours happening at 3 different times during the day. It wasn’t crowded, but the place wasn’t deserted too. The art gallery has a cafeteria too. From art to ornaments to biological concepts to aboriginal art, this place displays a great collection even with origins from other countries. I would say it takes atleast about an hour to properly cover the place. It’s quite big. No parking since it’s in the heart of the city. You have to park somewhere else and get here.

The most outstanding collection of Australian impressionist artwork and surprisingly incredible level of European and Japanese art also present. Totally defied my expectations. Staff up front were eager and helpful, and a polite guard explained the story behind one of my fathers favourite paintings.
