Housed in Ushuaia's spider-like former prison building, Museo Maritimo & del Presidio de Ushuaia tells the story of the city's seafarers and their irresistible yearning to explore the wilderness of Antarctica. Perched at the very tip of the continent, the museum captures Ushuaia's frontier-town atmosphere and the sense of intrigue about what lies in the waters beyond. Smell the salt in the air and feel the chilly ocean winds as you learn about explorers who colonized Argentina and the impact their arrival had on the area's indigenous people. The former prison complex houses several other museums worth checking out during your visit. • It is a very big and cool museum. It is a little expensive. It is tiring, you walk a lot inside it. So you can stamp your ticket to come back the next day.

  • This was worth the time and money because of all there is to be seen. The entire prison has been turned into various exhibitions and displays. One can easily spend 1.5-2 hours here. Every Cell - has something to see and read about. Highly recommend. Exhibits are in Spanish and English. Staff is multilingual. Some displays are older than others, some are touch screen digital - so there's lots to be had. At least 2 gift shops and 2 places to mail postcards, etc from. #mailedfromprison Just watch your belongings. Left a camera out and it was taken. :-( sadness (and hence no photos to share).
  • Incredible experience. Very realistic. Both museums are super recomendable.
