Blackgang Chine, Ventnor

Theme Park · Water / Amusement Park
An amusement park resting in an old ravine, Blackgang Chine has hosted amusement park enthusiasts since 1843. The two main attractions are a roller coaster and a waterslide, but the park is most famous for its award-winning walkthrough heritage sites. In 2010, "Blackgang's Disappearing Village" opened for adult guests. It tells the story of the ravine and coastline and houses Chocolate Heaven, a gourmet chocolate shop, among other attractions. Visit the 26.5 m (87 ft) skeleton of a whale, Timber World, Wight Flight, and a fairyland section, also located in the Disappearing Village. • Food was horrendous. We ate in Cowboy Town and were the first to order that day. Our burgers, despite having apparently been cooked there and then, were lukewarm at best. The tiny bit of salad in a...  more »
  • We pre-booked our day and went at the end of August. Great fun although very busy in the afternoon. Managing all the safety guidelines very well. With nearly everything open.  more »
  • Blackgang Chine is one of those places everyone has heard of and therefore is a must see for any visitor to the Isle of Wight hence our visit. We were two adults and two young children. Both I and my wife had visited previously but with my visit being 35 years ago I had no memory whatsoever of the place. It is a pleasant place to visit and most of it is very well kept but I can't help thinking that it is relying mostly on its name and the fact that it is the oldest theme park in the UK. It certainly seemed overpriced to me for what it is. From the perspective of my young children (almost four years old and 17 months old) they had an enjoyable time. The elder, my son, particularly liked the maze, the hall of mirrors, the dinosaurs, fairyland and cowboy town. Altogether he was entertained for around four hours or in other words to the point that we were exhausted. So was it value for money? For me, not quite but for many people it will be. Would I visit again? Me, probably not - my son, probably yes. Only time will tell and don't forget, Blackgang Chine is older than time itself!
  • Great place for kids, lots to do. Prices are reasonable. We had a great there. Our two girls absolutely loved the fairy show that was on. Staff and performers are all very friendly and helpful. There is something for all ages of children there from a couple of the bigger rides and slides to the things aimed at small kids. We would have no hesitation to return again. Great place.
