Shanklin Chine, Shanklin

#1 of 19 in Things to do in Shanklin
Wildlife Area · Nature / Park
The wooded coastal ravine of Shanklin Chine sits as the Isle of Wight's mini-Shangri La. Start your visit at the heritage center, where you can learn about the site's natural history. Embark on one of the trails and amble past waterfalls, lush vegetation, and towering trees. The chine drops 32 m (102 ft) to the sea over the course of 0.4 km (0.25 mi). Keep your camera ready, because you might spot gray chipmunks, parrots, Asian blue quails, and Chinese golden pheasants. With entrances and exits at both ends, you can walk either up or down. A fisherman's cottage sits at the bottom, though, and a home-cooked meal with a locally brewed ale on the sundeck makes a fine way to top off your visit. • This is a place I would never forget. With greenery all around it looked like a dream. As soon as we get par this place we can end up in a beach, sounds awesome, isn’t it? The beach near Shanklin chine is Shanklin Beach. Which leads to Sandown beach. The trail through this Chine is a nice walk to remember.
  • Oh this place was just charming, so much so I was half expecting to catch sight of an elf. With colourful light glowing between the trees and music carrying over the breeze it was a delight. 4 stars only because, first you have to pay and I kinda think it should be free. Second, you cant go in the waterfall. This seems such a shame but like the pay understandable.
