Take a stroll through the woods of Killiecrankie, through which the River Garry flows. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, nesting birds, and plenty of other wildlife. In 1689 the leafy gorge was the site of a bloody battle, one of the decisive actions of the Jacobite risings. A visitor center recounts the story of the battle through hands-on displays and models, and also tells the natural history of the valley. Look for the site where one footsoldier made a narrow escape from pursuers by jumping across the river. Adventure companies offer river rafting and a "Highland fling" bungee jump. Plan your visit to Killiecrankie and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Pitlochry road trip planning site.
