Learn about Scotland's elite military regiment dating back almost three centuries at The Black Watch Castle & Museum. Visit the castle and the museum within to discover the accomplishments of the Black Watch, an infantry battalion praised for its notable and heroic missions and still active today. View items like Victoria Crosses, the highest military decoration, and even the kilt of Captain W. D. McL. Stewart, killed during the 1916 Battle of the Somme. Tours are offered daily, and the cafe makes a great place to rest your feet after the long exploration. Check ahead for special events, too, as family activities are sometimes offered. Warm welcome, Covid rules explained, beautiful area to take your time wandering through. We learnt so much and enjoyed the visit. Some fascinating artefacts. Our favourites were : The St. Valery... more »
Make the distinction between the museum ( excellent) and the cafe which is average and haunted by the red trouser brigade. Perth and Perthshire are pretty full of the Black Watch officer cabak more »
This is a great museum for adults. I had a thoroughly informing and enjoyable visit to the museum. The staff were lovely, the tour guide that takes tours you around the museum was kind, helpful, and informative if anyone in the group has a special interest he will tell the person about that as well; making the experience feel very unique to those visiting. There are a few things children to play with but its a reading museum rather than a pressing buttons Museum. It costs £8 for an adult but it's £15 for a ticket with the tour guide, wasn't sure if it was worth the extra but went for it, glad I got the tour. Chris (the tour guide) was funny and made history come alive with his stories. A child's ticket is £3.50 based on the 8-year-old in my life he would have lost it in there! There is a play park a couple of hundred meters out the back (clearly seen from the garden at the back of the Black Watch Museum) that would have kept him happy if parents want to take it in turns and visit the museum. A good museum it's well worth the tour. I don't know about the restaurant as I didn't go but it was well used today with lots of people. The gift shop has some lovely gifts at prices that didn't make it feel like a tourist trap. Thanks, a very happy customer.
Great place to visit, plenty of interesting history and still suitable for shorter visits. The chambers are filled with wonderful items representing the proud and brave history. The stories are interesting enough to share with children! The staff is really very open, friendly and helpful.
