Must see · Castle · Tourist Spot
Craigievar Castle is a pinkish harled castle or fortified country house 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Alford, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It was the seat of Clan Sempill and the Forbes family resided here for 350 years until 1963, when the property was given to the National Trust for Scotland by William Forbes-Sempill, 19th Lord Sempill in the 1960s. The setting is among scenic rolling foothills of the Grampian Mountains. The contrast of its massive lower storey structure to the finely sculpted multiple turrets, gargoyles and high corbelling work create a classic fairytale appearance.

  • A great castle to visit and the tour guides are very knowledgeable on the history of the building and the family who lived in it. The only downside is that you are not allowed to take photos inside the castle which is a shame as there are some beautiful rooms with interesting artifacts. The castle is in a lovely setting and looks to be very well looked after Worth a visit and a walk around the grounds
  • This place is magical. A real fairy castle that was the inspiration for the story of Cinderella. There is parking and disabled parking and there are half hourly guided tours where you can access right inside the castle and up to the top. There is a snack kiosk and gift shop where you can buy the tour tickets. It's around £13.00 for an adult but there are concessions and family tickets available. The views are breathtaking.
