Inhabited for millennia, the city of Bukhara boasts a World Heritage-listed center teeming with historic mosques, madrassas, pools, and ancient ruins.
Start off your visit on the 10th (Tue): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Abdulaziz-Khan Madrasah, take some stellar pictures from Great Minaret of the Kalon, contemplate the long history of Samanid Mausoleum, make a trip to Chor-Minor, then don't miss a visit to Lyab-i-Hauz, and finally examine the collection at Avicenna Museum, Afsona. Traveling from Bangkok in March, things will get much colder in Bukhara: highs are around 19°C and lows about 5°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) early enough to travel to Samarkand.

Uzbekistan’s most glorious city, Samarkand, offers a fine combination of history and modern urban life.
On the 12th (Thu), stroll the grounds of Gur Emir Mausoleum, don't miss a visit to Registan, and then steep yourself in history at Tillya Kori Madrasah. Keep things going the next day: take in the spiritual surroundings of Sher Dor Madrasah, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Bibi-Khanym Mosque Bibi-Xonum, pause for some photo ops at Shah-i-Zinda, then look and learn at Ulugh Beg Observatory, then explore the ancient world of Afrasiyab Museum, and finally get engrossed in the history at Afrasiyab Museum.

You can take a train from Bukhara to Samarkand in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In March, plan for daily highs up to 17°C, and evening lows to 5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Fri) to allow time to travel to Khiva.
