Furniture City

The second largest city in Michigan and a hub of furniture manufacturing, Grand Rapids bears the nickname "Furniture City." However, the destination's original name came from the rapids of the Grand River that once ran through the downtown area.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Blandford Nature Center and Kalamazoo Nature Center. Meyer May House and Cathedral of Saint Andrew will appeal to history buffs. When in Grand Rapids, make a side trip to see St. Julian Winery in Paw Paw, approximately Paw Paw away. And it doesn't end there: do a tasting at Robinette's Apple Haus & Winery, get engrossed in the history at Grand Rapids Public Museum, appreciate the extensive heritage of Heritage Hill Historic District, and try your luck at Gun Lake Casino.

South Bend to Grand Rapids is an approximately 2-hour car ride. You can also take a bus; or take a train. In November in Grand Rapids, expect temperatures between 48°F during the day and 33°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 9th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Indianapolis.

Indiana's capital and most populous city, Indianapolis is best known for its racecar events and impressive museums, and as the hometown of Kurt Vonnegut.
