Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Get out of town with these interesting Rome side-trips: Centro Storico di Castro dei Volsci (in Castro dei Volsci), Grotte di Falvaterra (in Falvaterra) and Monastero Di S.Benedetto (in Subiaco). There's still lots to do: delve into the distant past at Colosseum, take in the spiritual surroundings of Vatican Museums, admire the landmark architecture of Pantheon, and visit Trastevere.

To find maps, traveler tips, where to stay, and tourist information, go to the Rome trip planner.

Munich, Germany to Rome is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. Prepare for a bit warmer weather when traveling from Munich in June: high temperatures in Rome hover around °C and lows are around °C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Fri) to allow enough time to travel to Porto.

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Change things up with these side-trips from Porto: Coimbra (Spas, Feijao Verde Fun Park, &more), Bom Jesus do Monte (in Braga) and Charola (in Tomar). And it doesn't end there: snap pictures at Ponte de Dom Luis I, admire the masterpieces at Museu Serralves, admire the striking features of Palacio da Bolsa, and indulge your taste buds at Food & Drink.
