City of a Hundred Spires

Prague lures millions of tourists each year with its World Heritage-listed medieval city center--a labyrinth of narrow lanes, bridges, cathedrals, and palaces overlooked by a thousand-year-old castle.
Kick off your visit on the 12th (Mon): take in the views from Charles Bridge and then identify plant and animal life at Czech Paradise. Here are some ideas for day two: get to know the resident critters at Prague Zoo and then explore the historical opulence of Prague Castle.

In north-central Switzerland, Lucerne represents a small city boasting a well-preserved old town.
Take a break from the city and head to Titlis and Lake Brienz. Step off the beaten path and head to Parasailing & Paragliding and Biosphaere Entlebuch. Step out of Lucerne to go to Kerzers and see Papiliorama, which is approximately 1h 30 min away. There's more to do: engage your brain at Verkehrshaus der Schweiz and contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Lucerne.

You can fly from Prague to Lucerne in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In July, daily temperatures in Lucerne can reach 77°F, while at night they dip to 59°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
