The capital of Malaysia's third-largest state, busy Kuantan remains generally untouristed, yet continues to grow as a residential urban community.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Teluk Chempedak and Cherating Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kuantan: Penunjuk Beach (in Kijal), Bentong Gallery (in Bentong) and Sungai Lembing (Sungai Lembing Museum, Bukit Panorama, &more). There's lots more to do: cool off at Gambang Water Park, browse the different shops at East Coast Mall, discover the riches below the earth's surface at Sungai Lembing Mines, and contemplate the waterfront views at Cherating River.
