Most tourism in Ruhengeri revolves around the famous national park, which shelters mountain gorillas of the volcanic Virunga range.
Take a break from the city and head to Volcanoes National Park and Kayaking & Canoeing. Take a break from Ruhengeri with a short trip to Congo Nile Trail in Rubavu, about 1h 10 min away. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Iby'iwacu Cultural Village, make a trip to Karisoke Research Center - Dian Fossey Camp, explore the activities along Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo, and stop by Umuzabibu Mwiza - Home to Handspun Hope.

You can drive from Kigali to Ruhengeri in 2 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Traveling from Kigali in March, expect Ruhengeri to be little chillier, temps between 71°F and 56°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Kibuye.

Kibuye is a city in Karongi District, and the headquarters of the Western Province in Rwanda.LocationThe city lies on the eastern shores of Lake Kivu, between Gisenyi and Cyangugu, approximately 135km, by road, west of Kigali, the capital and largest city in the country. Start off your visit on the 23rd (Tue): contemplate the long history of Bisesero Genocide Memorial, then explore the activities along Lake Kivu, and then get curious at Museum of Environment. You can drive from Ruhengeri to Kibuye in 3 hours. Expect a bit warmer evenings in Kibuye when traveling from Ruhengeri in March, with lows around 62°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 24th (Wed) to allow time for the car ride to Huye.

Huye
