Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Galleria Borghese and Musei Capitolini will appeal to museum buffs. Step out of Rome to go to Tivoli and see Villa d'Este, which is approximately 48 minutes away. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of St. Peter's Basilica, wander the streets of Trastevere, delve into the distant past at Palatine Hill, and pause for some serene contemplation at Pantheon.

To find photos, where to stay, more things to do, and other tourist information, you can read our Rome attractions website.

If you are flying in from Greece, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport and Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport. In January, daytime highs in Rome are °C, while nighttime lows are °C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 21st (Fri) so you can travel back home.
